Port Louis, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — The bearish mood persisted on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius equity trading at today’s trading session. Therefore, the equity market capitalization declined by MUR 128 billion (US$ 3.6 million) to settle at MUR 216.358 million relative to previous market capitalization of MUR 216.486 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) fell by 0.06 percent or 1.15 points to close at 1,942.85 points and SEM10 index closed at 370.72 points after losing 0.72 points or 0.19 percent.
From the market activity viewpoint, the overall total volume trade ended at 3.507 million (a fall relative to volume of 7.674 million recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 42.869 million (a fall relative to MUR 78.263 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 3,204,400 (about 91 percent of total volume) at MUR 2.603 million and Sanlam (USD) registered 115,800 traded stocks amounted to US$ 22.547 million. POLICY Mauritius had 95,000 at MUR 634,600 million and New Mauritius Hotels recorded a total volume of 70,752 shares at MUR 1.309 million. MCB Group also recorded 59,552 shares at MUR 12.607 million.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, out of 29 traded securities there were 5 price gainer and 8 losers, hence the market sentiment ended negative. Gamma Civic emerged as the top gainer after surging by 5.76 percent to end at MUR 28.48, Sanlam (USD) ended at US$ 5.50 after soaring by 3.38 percent and ENL Land Limited (Preference) ended at MUR 40.50 after advancing by 1.25 percent. CIM Financial Services rose by 1.19 percent to settle at MUR 8.50 and Rogers & Co Limited climbed by 0.85 percent to close at MUR 29.75.
On the contrary, the loser was New Mauritius Hotels (Preference) with a price reduction of 1.77 percent to trade at MUR 11.10 and B Mare Holding sagged by 1.75 percent to conclude at MUR 28.00. Promotion and Development shred off 1.05 percent to end at MUR 94.50. Innodis Limited settled at MUR 49.00 after sagging by MUR 0.50 or 1.01 percent and ENL Land Limited slumped by 1.00 percent to settle at MUR 49.50.
The DEMEX index ended at 203.30 points after gaining 0.13 points or 0.06 percent. The market capitalization fell by MUR 31 million to close at MUR 48.318 billion (relative to MUR 48.349 billion recorded previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 2.549 million exchanged in 154,726 traded securities. Phoenix Investment surged by 1.59 percent to end at MUR 255.00 whereas Ascencia Class B closed at MUR 14.00 after gaining 2.10o percent and CIEL Textile Limited was 0.26 percent lower to end at MUR 38.30.
